You can do it! Short term diets to take off the excess weight is a great way to start your path to healthier living and get you motivated for life long eating habits and goals. These are tips to lose weight in 30 days and how I got started on this same path to losing 100 lbs.!
Ready, Set, GO!!!
Start the day with a small protein packed breakfast! These are some of the items I like. I also liked to keep a prepped omelet in the fridge for when I needed something quickly it helped me grab and go. Hard boiled eggs are also a great option but I would not open them in an office as the smell can be a bit much. They are quickly munchable though. Protein shakes are a good option if you are able to find a low carb good quality one without the fake sugar.
2 eggs 2 pieces of Canadian Bacon maybe add some sate’ spinach and a sprinkle of cheese
1 Low sugar (not low fat) Greek style yogert
Egg White Omelet with mushrooms, spinach, cheese and ham
Omelet with broccoli cheese and green onion
Quiche with a mashed veggie crust is good for anytime of the day
Mid Day Hooray!
I have to say when I am on a short term diet, this is the hardest time of the day for me. The afternoon I would get very hungry so I was very excited about eating. Hooray!
Cold cuts, salami, ham, turkey, chicken and really any protein you love with a little cheese maybe. I would regularly put these items into a lettuce leaf and have a couple of wraps. This is a great time to look at the dressings you may have around the house. I love a good dressing and unfortunately they contain carbs and sugars, so I would make my own. Olive oil, lemon, pepper, herbs and all set!
Some packaged proteins are also some very good options like tuna and chicken salad super yummy on lettuce or celery sticks.
I also love roasted veggie trays with some home made meat tomato sauce. I like the diced tomatoes in a can without sugar, pop em in a pot with olive oil, onion and garlic. Add a bit of meat and let it simmer a little until reduced a bit. Make some boats out of your favorite veggies like zucchini and fill em up with this sauce top with some cheese and pop them in the oven at 375 to 400 until they are hot and bubbly.
You can also make a salsa with sundried tomato, onion, garlic, herbs, peppers and is also delightful as a veggie topper. Add a bit of protein and you have a very Hardy satisfying meal.
If you can eat supper earlier, it might give you a bit more time to get in some movement before bed. Not a lot but a little muscle flexing can give you great results before putting them to rest for the night.
Roasted Chicken, Beef and Pork is a staple for me when it comes to dinner time. Easy in the oven and smells great! You can pair any lower carb/starch veggie with it and works great to make that tummy happy for the night.
Flank Steak is an excellent leaner beef that broils up in the oven super nice. Med rare it is packed with vitamins that help with energy.
Pork Sirloin in the crock or pressure cooker makes an excellent leaner pulled pork. Season it heavily with dried spices (skipping the sugar) before cooking and Finish it with a little BBQ sauce and use in a lettuce wrap or veg topper. You can also do chicken breast in this same way. Super yummy!
Or grilling is a great option for some quick fish with olive oil, lemon, dill and scallion or some hamburgers with a spicy brown mustard Cole slaw. Check your dressings to make sure you have the right ones for your carb intake.
Keep Your Carbs
DOWN! I had to put down the bread, crackers, cereal, pasta and any food that I could not eat enough of to get full without going over 30 grams of carbs a day for 3 to 6 months. No desert! No cheat day! Maybe think of it like a quest, an adventure into the unknown, a spiritual awakening rite of passage! However you want to challenge yourself to get it done! Personally I took the spiritual awakening approach. Find it within you what will work and keep away from the doughnut, for now.
Drink water and a lot of it. Some days I went potty more than I ever knew a person could. Water is the best solution for helping with the full feeling while eating. I also love to brew my own tea with green and black teas. No sugar and a little caffeine to boot! Well It is not forever and you will start to see results quickly within the first month. This is the quickest method to lose weight I know of and while it is not a forever eating habit it really helped me to shed the pounds while I figured out what my exercise and health goals were. After that what my long term goals would look like. All I wanted at the time was to lose the weight. After that the natural progression of healthy eating and exercise just seamed logical and natural. I did not think about my future goals in the beginning but the ones I had an immediate need and plan to accomplish; to Lose Weight.
Temped By The Sweetness
Fake sugar is bad for you. ALL FAKE SUGAR IS BAD. There, I said it. I am not aware of any fake sweeteners that might be even a little OK for ingestion. Don’t be fooled by the no carb happy ingredient list. The fake sugars put into these “diet” sodas, juice drinks and products of all sorts kills the good bacteria in your guts and effects you brains response to sugar. These are not good things when trying to lose weight.
While Stevie and mung fruit are a few natural sweeteners without so many calories, I would definitely choose them over any sucrose, however water and keeping it natural is the best way to go.
One of the motivating factors of this type of diet is that you do see a difference rather quickly as your body no longer has the sugar it normally uses for energy. Instead it is forced to use other sources of energy – as in fat! Once you body understands it should be burning fat when your sugar is low it gets more efficient with time. This is a look into the typical meals and items I made (and still love) to lose weight. I hope you find them helpful and let me know if you have some tips or questions in the comments below!
